A contract dispute between YouTube and Warner Music will lead to the removal of thousands of video clips owned by Warner Music and Warner Chappell unit. Warner Music demanded that all video clips owned by their artists to be removed after YouTube refused to offer Warner Music a bigger share of the potential revenue that could be generated from YouTube users.
Warner Music owns a slew of recording companies including: Atlantic, Bad Boy, and Lava records. Popular artists such as My Chemical Romance, Muse, T.I., Madonna, and Natalie Cole are a few under the label.
Warner Music’s greed could cause the giant music company big. As I see it, Warner Music allowing YouTube to host their video clips is a way to advertise for free. Instead of paying the major television stations, billboards, magazine, and radio ads millions, why not allow their video to be viewed by millions for FREE! As of lately, most people spend more time on the Internet than other means of entertainment.
Warner Music decision to part ways from YouTube will be a stupid move. In my opinion, YouTube probably assisted in generating revenue for the music giant.
